Literary Festivals for Bookish Wanderers – 2021 to 2022

Are you one of those people who would browse up and down the isles of a library or bookstore to find new authors, genres, or the latest gem of literature to delve into? Does the smell of books turn you on or have you attended a new book launch or listened to an author reading passages from his or her latest book? Well, then I am sure you must have attended a literary festival before.

A literary festival, book or writer’s festival is a gathering of writers and readers usually on a yearly basis in a specific city. Here you will find an array of presentations and readings by authors, book signings, and other events distributed over several days with the key purpose to promote the authors’ books and cultivating the love of literature and writing. You will also have the opportunity to purchase books at these festivals.

The popularity of literary festivals is not solely dependent on the love for reading. It is also the love of all art forms and forms of expression that makes it so enjoyable. At the literary festival is where books, literary arts, and creative processes are celebrated

It is well known that the life of a writer can be very lonely because nobody else can pen the writer’s ideas gathered in his head onto paper. There is no better place for a writer to come out of hibernation to re-charge his or her batteries and share success or hardships with other kindred spirits.

If you have not yet attended a literary festival, then the following reasons would definitely ignite the flame inside of you to attend one.

With the raging Corona Virus pandemic numerous cancellations, postponements, and adjustments have forced more and more book fairs and literary festivals to start work on developing effective digital alternatives to the physical-fair model. With travel restrictions and social distancing, chances are that many literary festival organizers will resort to a plan B and go online. This might not be ideal as it is chipping away at the whole atmosphere of the physical festivals, but it might just be the way to go to save these cultural events until such time as a permanent solution to the Corona Virus is found.

Conclusion

In 2020, the coronavirus has forced many book fairs to be canceled or for those thinking outside the box to go completely digital. This was the adoption of a new era for literary festivals where new partnerships were made and, new target groups were discovered and developed. But many have doubts about the book fairs' future existence. Will this be the end of the physical meeting since everything is starting to go digital?

The answer is as clear as day. Physical meetings between people will always be the foundation of independent society and are important to drive business and sustaining business relations. Worldwide book fairs are also a strong implement for the international literary economy.

This year is full of unknown elements, but there is no harm in hoping for the best and being optimistic because the world would be a lot poorer without book fairs.
